Dollars from Heaven

Idaho pastors write checks to pay for $10,000 of unpaid parking tickets for those who “just ask.”

Boise, Idaho – Forgiveness will be in the air this Saturday, December 12th, 2009, in Boise, Idaho, where a cross-denominational group of pastors are going to write checks to forgive the unpaid parking tickets of those who come to City Hall and simply ask. The pastors will sit at tables outside City Hall in Boise for three hours, checkbooks in hand, and meet lines of people in a kind of “modern day parable” about grace. Area vendors are donating food and drinks to add to the festive environment.

“We wanted to help people understand, in a practical way, that even though we’ve all made mistakes, God’s grace and forgiveness is received, just by asking,” said Montie Ralstin, Pastor of Boise Valley Christian Communion.

The Christian Churches of the Treasure Valley Association is the sponsor of Saturday’s event.

The money was raised from local businesses and will be given on a first-come-first-served basis until the $10,000 budget is expended.

This is the latest media outreach effort by Boise-based church outreach group, Mission Media, which first initiated the Grace Gift Parable in 2004 with a similar parking ticket payment event. In 2005 and 2006, grace was shown through giving gas to single parents and military families, respectively.
